For Your Reflection....

This is the season of love.

No, I’m not talking about the red hearts and the pink and red candies, chocolates galore and more roses than you can imagine.  But we are still in a season of love.

Right now we are still in the season following Epiphany, as we await the beginning of the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday.  The word epiphany is Greek for manifestation, and this manifestation of God is one of love.  God is manifested in the Jesus Christ...read more

William Plummer - Director of Music

I wanted to take a moment and extend a warm greeting to all my new friends at First Christian. I am very happy to be a part of such a wonderful congregation, and looking forward to many exciting experiences while sharing music with you. I also wanted to share a few thoughts of mine about what has made me passionate about choral music.

I realized fairly early on in life that singing could deliver a form of communication that moved me as a person. It lifted my spirits, it gave me strength, and it was my consolation. I resolved to dedicate my life to helping to create and shape that music. That was, and will always be, my calling. Choral music has the added layer of musical "meaning" in addition to the textual meaning of the spoken word. These two layers of meaning inform one another in exciting and interesting ways. And yet it is not this "musical" meaning which is the most important, or most special part of being a choir conductor. It is the joy of helping others realize that they are extraordinary people who are capable of succeeding at extraordinary things. It is the happiness built through mutual trust, both in a musical and in a broader, general sense. And it is the satisfaction that comes from committing oneself to something that truly matters. And although my career path in life has been difficult at times, the beauty I have experienced, the wonderful people I have met and shared great experiences with, and the supreme enjoyment of singing itself--these I would never trade. These experiences are what make me--and keep me passionate about conducting choirs. I am looking forward to meeting all of you in choir rehearsal on September 15th, so if you're interested in sharing your talents and your service--or if you're simply curious about what it is that the choir does every week "behind the scenes," feel free to join us and say "hello."

Yours in Christ,

William Plummer
